Warning: Today’s post is pretty different from my usual book-related posts.
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions. Sadness at the thought of another mass shooting. Devastation from the thought of all the innocent lives lost. Anger at politicians for prioritizing money over people. Frustration at the thought of all of this happening again.
But in the midst of these negative feelings, I see hope. I feel inspired. I am passionate that there will be change.
The youth activists behind the #NeverAgain movement and #MarchForOurLives are inspiring. They are the leaders–the warriors–we read about it in history books. They are the inspiration for Katniss Everdeen, Tris Prior, and Dumbledore’s Army. They are the next generation of Martin Luther King Jr’s, Rosa Parks’, Susan B. Anthony’s, and Malala Yousafzai’s. They are not victims. They are survivors. They are powerful, and they will be heard.
Beautiful. These survivors are so powerful. I’ve cried with them so much this week – they are so inspiring and I have hope that we’ll see real change soon.
