All The Books That Made Me Go “NOPE”

Today, I’m doing the Nope Book Tag which I was tagged in by the lovely Marie from Drizzle and Hurricane Books 💖 (Go give her some love!!)

51Y0CPVcRyLNOPE. Ending: a book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was crappy.

Allegiant from the Divergent Series. My answer is the same as Marie’s. 😂 I had such high hopes for the rest of the series because dystopian was such a popular genre during that time, and the world felt so badass and cool. Then, this disaster of an ending happened. #NOPE 😢

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra BrackenNOPE. Protagonist: a main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

Ruby from The Darkest Minds series. I’ve only read the first book in this series, but I couldn’t stand Ruby. In my mind, she was just so whiny and weak. ASDFGHJKL. She just annoyed me so much, and I hated reading from her POV. 😤 My review can be found here.

Nope. Pairing: a “ship” you don’t support.

anna-and-the-french-kiss

Anna and Étienne from Anna and the French Kiss. Their entire relationship is built on emotional (and some physical) cheating, and I simply can’t support that. My review can be found here.

9781619636071-2NOPE. Plot Twist: a twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like liked.

Marie changed the original question, and I’m joining her. 😂 I finished Empire of Storms from the Throne of Glass series over Spring Break when I binge read the series, and my heart was feeling so many feels. 💔 I’m so ready for the next book!!

NOPE. Genre: a genre you will never read.

Science Fiction. I’m just not a fan. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

NOPE. Book Format: book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

I’m not too picky about books types. I love them all! Audiobooks, Paperback, Hardcover, but I prefer Kindle. belle-love-books.gif

NOPE. Trope: a trope that makes you go NOPE.

I know this is most people’s answer but it’s….insta-love. I cannot stand this trope. In what world do you fall in love with the person you meet instantly? I don’t buy it. giphy

NOPE. Recommendation: a book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

turtles-all-the-way-down-john-green

Soooo my answer has got to be Turtles All the Way Down. 🐢 (Sorry Xan!) I probably will read this at some point….but not anytime soon. I’m just not the biggest fan of contemporary novels. Plus, I didn’t love The Fault In Our Stars as much as everyone else, so I feel like this will go along the same lines…

NOPE. Cliche: a cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

Girl-on-girl hating. I absolutely hate it when authors try to show that their main character is “special” and “not like other girls” by literally bringing other girls down. What does that accomplish?

NOPE. Love Interest: the love interest that’s not worthy of being one.

anna-and-the-french-kiss

Twice in one blog post! My answer is definitely Étienne from Anna and the French Kiss. This guy is painted to be extremely wonderful and swoon-worthy…BUT! What is swoon-worthy about a guy who cheats on his girlfriend?

NOPE. Book: a book that shouldn’t have existed.

BeautifulCreatures

Beautiful Creatures. This book was so fat and long, but I truly do not remember anything that happened. I read the first three books in the series, but the plot was not moving along at all so I gave up.

percy-jacksonNOPE. Villain: a villain you would hate to cross.

Hmm…what a difficult question! Most likely the Titans and monsters from the Percy Jackson series. I don’t have their badass demi-god fighting skills. 😂

NOPE. Death: a character death that still haunts you.

A character that died happily and of old age in Clockwork Princess from The Infernal Devices. Then, we have a character who died in pain and without his love in The Assassin’s Blade from Throne of Glass series. 😢

NOPE. Author: an author a series you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.hush-hush-becca-fitzpatrick

Hush, Hush series. I read this series twice…because I didn’t remember that I read it once before. AND I still can’t remember what the series is about. Something about angels?

Tagging My Amazing Friends:

Thanks so much for reading! What are your most #NOPE books? Let me know in the comments! 💕

  1. I have to agree so hard on some of your nopes – allegiant was such a disappointment, I was so angry at how it ended and I only got half way through Hush Hush before deciding to put it down and can’t remember a single detail of it. Though I didn’t read the rest of the series of Beautiful Creatures, I think it had some pretty good parts – hated the movie though.

    1. OK GOOD TO KNOW I’M NOT ALONE 😂I seriously don’t understand why Hush, Hush was so unmemorable! The Beautiful Creatures series had some good parts, but overall, I felt that it moved SO SLOWWWW. I haven’t watched the movie, but I was surprised that they even decided to turn it into one! Thanks for stopping by and reading this post 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by to read my post!! I was so upset with Allegiant! I felt like she was trying so hard to make the story memorable and sad, but it felt rushed and didn’t make sense. The Darkest Minds was a let down too 😦 Let me know if you ever decide to do this tag!

  2. Aaaah I actually loved the Darkest Minds xD BUT I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE DEATH ONE! I actually scheduled a post about Character Deaths I’m Still not over…those two are both in there hehe. Adding this tag on my to do list now 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post!! It means so much to me ❤ And YES insta-love is so annoying. One of the best parts about reading a romance is seeing the characters get to know each other and eventually fall in love because of knowing the whole person. I feel so bad about not remembering Hush, Hush though! I don't think I hated it…it just wasn't memorable…

  3. YAY, I am so glad you did this tag, I loved reading your answers 🙂 Glad you picked Allegiant as well haha that ending was such a massive nooooooooope for me as well, haha. And same goes for insta-love, it just seems so unrealistic, I can’t buy that at all.
I’m sorry to hear you won’t read Turtles though, it is one of my favorite books and it had such a good anxiety rep, but you should obviously read whatever you prefer 😀
    Lovely answers! 😀 x

    1. Thanks Marie!! I had so much fun doing this tag, so I’m happy that you tagged me in it ❤ Allegiant was such a let down based on where the story was going and insta-love is just a definite NOPE. I guess I wouldn't say Turtles is 100% out? It's just not my main priority. I'm definitely still interested in it too because I think anxiety rep is so important. I struggle with really bad test anxiety sometimes, so it'd be so cool to see the aspect represented in a book 🙂

      1. I’m so glad to hear it, and also very happy that Turtles it not 100% out just yet, haha. I found Turtles realistic and highly relatable for anxiety rep, for me as well. I really hope you’ll give it a try someday 😀

  4. I haven’t read a lot of these lol so can’t relate. But inst-love is a definite no go! And I’ve got the Hush Hush series and only read the first, I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually!

    1. Let me know what you think of Hush, Hush! I remember it was pretty interesting but not the most memorable. Let me know too if you decide to do this tag for fun 🙂 I’d love to see your answers!

      1. I enjoyed Hush Hush, but haven’t wanted to pick up the next one, so it’s not super addictive! I think I will steal this tag 😀

  5. Totally agree with John Green’s books in general. His writing is just not for me. :/ And girl-on-girl hate is THE WORST, especially when every single character in the book seems to do it?? And I can’t believe you read Hush, Hush twice. I gave up on the entire series after reading book 2. xD

    1. OK GOOD I’ve always felt iffy about not being in love with John Green’s writing & books, so I’m glad to know I’m not alone 😂

I hate that so many books try to prop up the MC by slut shaming or bringing down other girls! Like what does that even accomplish?? Women have to go through so much to be treated with respect, so why tear it down to another woman?

Hush, Hush was just a blur to me 😂I don’t even remember what was good/bad about it because I DON’T REMEMBER IT!!

  6. Okay, this tag is really nice, and you have such great answers there!! 🙂 I’m doing it even if I’m not tagged! As per usual. Haha.

    Great post, TIffany!

  7. That’s such a great Tag! 😄
I don’t think I’ll ever get around to reading Allegiant as I’ve been spoiled for the ending and I don’t really care about the Series anymore 😅 I also agree on Beautiful Creatures … I couldn’t even finish the first book it was too long and I highly disliked the narrator :/
