Tag: Mid Year Freak Out

Can you believe that it’s already June?? Where did all the time go? A part of me still feels like it’s 2016. 😂 Thank you so much to Kelly from Another Book in the Wall, Lily from Sprinkles of Dreams, and Olivia from Purely Olivia for tagging me to freak the fudge out 💕😱

1. Best Book You’ve Read This Year?

http_pixel.nymag.comimgsfashiondaily2017030909-The-Hate-U-Give.nocrop.w710.h2147483647The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. GUYS…this book was so freaking good! I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked it up because I knew it wasn’t going to be a fluffy contemporary or a magical fantasy. It was a book that covered an extremely serious and relevant topic. Angie Thomas did a phenomenal job! 🙌

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2018?

Lord-of-Shadows-The-Dark-Artifices-2-Cassandra-ClareLord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. I decided to reread The Dark Artifices series at the beginning of this year, and I was absolutely blown away by how complex and sophisticated this book was. 🌟 The characters were so real, and Cassandra Clare’s writing just gets better with each book. Full review here!

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To?

36389267A Thousand Perfect Notes by CG Drews. You may know her as PaperFury on Twitter, but we all know and love her!! 💕 Everyone has been raving about this book, and I seriously need to get on the bandwagon. If her tweets are any indication, I already know that I’d love the writing. 😂

4. Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?

9781408872918Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas. My heart is not ready!! I binge read the entire TOG series back in March, and I instantly fell in love. 💘 The characters were perfectly imperfect and incredibly hilarious. The plotline was so well developed with twists to keep me on my toes at every turn. I can’t wait to be reunited with these characters that I love, but I’m so anxious to see what happens. 😱

5. Biggest Disappointment?

31681276American Panda by Gloria Chao. As a Taiwanese American myself, I was really looking forward to reading this book, but unfortunately, it just fell flat for me. 😢 I’m proud of Gloria Chao for such an incredible accomplishment, but the book was too over-the-top coupled with poor pacing. Check out my review here.

6. Biggest Surprise?

Once and For All by Sarah Dessen. I recently finished listening to thishttp_sarahdessen.comwordpresswp-contentuploadsOnce-And-For-All-720x1096 as an audiobook, and I was pleasantly surprised! 🎧 The romance was slow to develop and nice to watch unfold. The book also touches on a very sensitive topic, and I thought Sarah Dessen did a great job of balancing how serious it is with a light-hearted romance.  👌

7. Favorite New To You Or Debut Author?

http_modogeeks.comwp-contentuploads201607sarah-j-maas Queen Sarah J Maas. This year…I became SJM trash. I loved the Throne of Glass series so firetrucking much. 😍 The ACOTAR series was also pretty good, but I think I couldn’t appreciate it as much because I read it right before finals. 😅 Still, I am so amazed by her writing, world-building, character-crafting, etc. I also watched a few of her author interviews, and she is such a fun and sweet person!

8. Newest Fictional Crush? + 9. Newest Favorite Character?

DVb32FrWAAARUol Rowan Whitethorn and Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. I could write a whole blog post fangirling about why I love these two, but 100% my newest faves. They’re both so badass and sweet…I LOVE THEM SO MUCH 💕 They are seriously relationship goals!!

“I love you. There is no limit to what I can give to you, no time I need. Even when this world is forgotten whisper of dust between the stars, I will love you.”

10. Book That Made You Cry?

52156698

Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas. The ending!! My heart!! 💔 There is just so much badass-ery. 💥 I was so invested in these characters that every victory and loss felt so real to me. These characters are my babies, and my heart breaks anytime something bad happens to them. The ending of this book was SO FREAKING INTENSE! I was screaming at my book the entire time. 😱

11. Book That Made You Happy?

Emergency Contact by Mary HK Choi. http_yourlifeafter25.comwp-contentuploads201803Emergency-Contact-Cover☕ This book was so different from regular contemporaries but it still maintained a great balance of romance and reality. Penny and Sam’s friendship was so cute, especially when reading their text messages! 📱Read my full book review and discussion here.

12. Favorite Book-To-Film Adaptation?

love-simon-nick-robinson-jennifer-garner-josh-duhamel-600x400Love, Simon. AKA Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Hands down the best book-to-film adaptation! 🙌 It made me smile, laugh, cry, and basically, feel all the feels. It definitely wasn’t 100% like the book, but I think they did a great job nonetheless. My friends and I ate Oreos while watching, and everything was so perfect when the entire theater stood up to clap at the end credits. 🎬

13. Favorite Post You Have Done This Year?

I really enjoyed writing the 25 Bookish Facts About Me tag. 💕 I had a great time thinking about my own little bookish quirks and learning about other people’s habits as I blog-hopped for inspiration. ✨

14. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year?

The Astonishing Color of After. https_images.gr-assets.combooks1516893525l35604686Okay, so I technically have not read this book yet…but I did purchase it!😍 The cover is just so beautiful, and I’ve heard such great things about the book itself. I know this book also highlights Taiwanese American culture, so I really have high hopes. 🙏

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of the Year?

https_kissinbluekaren.comwp-contentuploads201803Children-of-Blood-and-Bone-800x1210https_images.gr-assets.combooks1508244685l34499221http_cf.peanutblossom.comwp-contentuploads2016072016-07-27_0001355044313233333831076583

There are literally so many books I need to read! I am basically drowning in my TBR. 😭 Hopefully, I can use this summer to catch up so that I have all the time to read the amazing books that are released in the second half of this year! 💫

Tagging my wonderful friends:

How has 2018 been for you so far? What are you most looking forward to in the second half? Let me know in the comments! 💕

    1. !! THUG was such a powerful book and made me feel so many things 😭 it helped me recognize how much privilege I have too! Cait’s book just looks so amazing, and I want to take any chance I get to support someone in this community 💕 I really hope you Like Once and For All! It was fluffy but the serious parts of it were so powerful 😱 It left me so shook. I’m so excited to see your answers~

  4. Ohmygosh I didn’t know you were Taiwanese (did I??), only that you’re Asian!! I’ve never met another fellow Taiwanese here ahhh. ❤ :')

I'm so, so sad to hear that American Panda was disappointing rep-wise, I was really looking forward to it. :/ I hope you absolutely adore The Astonishing Color of After, I thought the book was gorgeous & the Taiwan descriptions, and representation in general so well-done and relatable!

And I can’t wait to read A Thousand Perfect Notes as well, I hope we both love it.

Gorgeous post, Tiffany!! I loved reading your answers, and it’s so aesthetically pleasing as well. 💓

    1. OMG TWINSIES 💕 it’s so amazing to meet a fellow Taiwanese blogger 🎉 I think American Panda really nailed some aspects, but other parts were just hella extra IMO for the shock factor 😕 Im really excited to read The Astonishing Color of After though!! 😍 Thanks so much for tagging me. I seriously had so much fun writing it~

    1. Thanks for reading it!! Have you done this tag?? I really want to see what you write 🙂 I feel sooo behind on the Children of Blood and Bone hype, but I definitely recommend TOG for SJM 😉 Last book in the series is being released this year!

  5. Loved your answers Tiffany ❤️ And I am so glad to see that we have so many common books. Thank you for the tag.

I finished THUG today itself and damn! It was so so good and powerful. I can’t wait to read Cait’s book either. I am so jealous of everyone who read it already 😜

I am sorry that American Panda disappointed you. It’s on my TBR and I hope to enjoy it more than you 🙈

Once and for All is on my TBR too. And Emergency Contact is so high on my TBR.

I freaking loved Simon and can’t wait to watch the movie. Basically my country decided to stop its release here. 🙄 Now I have to find another way to watch it.

And Astonishing color is definitely pretty. Isn’t it? I so want to buy this hardcover edition but it is so costly right now 😭

Oh for your anticipated reads, I have read Children of Blood and Bone and To Kill A Kingdom this year and I freaking loved them and one of these is my favourite of the year so far (I won’t tell you now) 😜 And Turtles All the Way down was my favourite of 2017 and I can’t praise it enough. I love John Green writing and this book was so beautifully written.

I am going to post the tag soon, probably tomorrow only 😜

    1. Thank you so much for your support girlie ❤ I'm super excited to read your tag answers!

THUG was seriously soooo good! It really made me realize how privileged I am and made me think about US's current political climate. I'm so jealous of everyone who got to read Cait's book too 😭It's okay though we can definitely fangirl together when we read it!

I think I just found American Panda to be too over the top and I wasn't a fan of the pacing, but I can definitely see why other people liked it :O I hope you do! You seriously need to read Once and For All + Emergency Contact though!! Those were 100% amazing 🙂

Ahhh I'm so sorry that you couldn't watch Love, Simon, but I hope you find a way because it was so worth!

I saw so many of your fav books and reviews this year that I had to add these amazing books to my TBR! ❤

You're so sweet and amazing! Let me know when your tag is posted ^_^ I can't wait to see it!

  6. Okay, stop making me feel bad for not having read The Hate U Give yet. T_T The size and the message are just really intimidating for me, since I’m more of a light contemporary kind of girl??? BUT I KNOW I MUST. D: And I was so excited to read American Panda at the start of the year, but I really don’t know about that anymore. I’m not Taiwanese-American, but I am Chinese, so I’m scared that I won’t like it!

    1. SHAME!! JK read it when you get the chance 😉 it’ll definitely be worth it 💕 Ive heard mixed responses from American Panda, so you might like it? I think I just personally thought it was too over the top in some aspects with bad pacing 😕

  7. I need Kingdom of Ash right now, but at the same time, I don’t want the series to end…I’m so conflicted! Also, I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy America Panda as much as you wanted, it was one of my most anticipated releases of this year but I have been hearing so many mixed things that I’m really nervous to pick it up. Great post! 💗

    1. I feel the exact same way about Kingdom of Ash!! I miss my babies so much, but I don’t think I’m ready to let them go </3 I think American Panda might have just been a miss for me, but I know a lot of people who also liked this book! Pick it up anyway to see 🙂

  8. I love this post; I see so many amazing books on this list! 😍 I loved Love, Simon as well; I watched it three times in theaters and enjoyed it every single time. (That’s amazing that you and your friend ate Oreos while watching! 😂💗

Ahhh, I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy American Panda. ☹️ It’s been on my TBR and I was looking forward to reading it for the Taiwanese American rep too (although I’m not Taiwanese, I’m Chinese), but I’ll still check it out anyway and see what happens! 🙈

    1. Love, Simon is amazingggg!! If I could’ve watched it again in theaters, I totally would’ve to support 🙂 My friend was very insistent on recreating the scene where Simon eats Oreos at the movies with his friends ^_^

American Panda might have been a personal thing? I was just super annoyed by the pacing of the book, but I can see why some people think it’s cute. I would recommend still reading it to see!

  9. Love the books you choose! Ugh the way Lord of Shadows ended was heart wrenching 😭 I still cry about it. I don’t even want to think about how Queen of Air and Darkness is going to end. The Hate U Give is on my list of books to finish before the year ends.

    Liked by 1 person

  10. Please read To Kill a Kingdom soon!! It’s so good! I also need to read The Hate U Give, Children of Blood and Bone, and Throne of Glass. Please help me. We can drown in our TBRs together.
