Happy Sunday! Today’s post combines two of my favorite things: cookies and books. 🍪📚 I absolutely love sweet treats, and cookies are definitely a regular craving along with ice cream, brownies, doughnuts, etc. Stephanie and I decided to combine our foodie spirit with our love for reading by sharing The Cookie Book tag which we found over on Kelly’s blog at Just Another Book In The Wall!
Chocolate Chip | A Classic Book That You Love or Really Enjoyed
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I mentioned it in my Best Books I’ve Read in 2018 (So Far) post, but this has definitely been a new favorite. I’m not sure if everyone considers it a classic, but it’s normally required reading here in the United States. Scout is the cutest narrator, and her bright and innocent outlook on life contrasts with the harsh realities of human nature. It teaches important lessons such as being compassionate and standing up for what is right. 🌟
Thin Mints | A Fandom That You Really Want to ‘Join’ and/or a Hyped-Up Book You Want To Read
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. I have heard so many good things about this book that I’ve already made the spontaneous purchase on my Kindle (Plus, it was on sale!). 💘I am living for the Asian representation in YA lately, and a fantasy novel with Chinese history seems like my cup of tea. I’m extremely excited to cross this book off my TBR, and I really hope that it lives up to the hype.
Shortbread | An Author You Can’t Get Enough Of
Morgan Matson. I have turned into a fluffy contemporary loving ball, and Morgan Matson’s books have been satisfying my lovesick heart. 😍I used to avoid reading contemporary books because I usually disliked most that I read, but this summer, I’ve been finding so many heartwarming gems. I’ve only read Since You Been Gone and The Unexpected Everything, but I loved both so much. I can’t wait to read her other books–Save the Date is up next in my TBR!
Samoas | An Emotional Rollercoaster
Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas. How is it possible to feel so many emotions in the span of one book?? 😭 The Throne of Glass books have a special place in my heart, and the characters are so intelligent and kickass. I was so invested in their lives, and seeing them find purpose, romance, and camaraderie made my heart sing with joy. Of course, if you’ve read this book, you’d know how heartbreaking the ending was, so we just have to stay positive for Kingdom of Ash!
Oreos | A Book Whose Cover Was Better Than The Story OR Vice Versa, Where The Story Was Better Than Its Cover
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. This was such an easy question to answer because VA is such an underrated series!! I genuinely question the marketing decision for this cringey title and cover. 🙄 There are even multiple cover versions…but they all suck! (The vampire pun was not intended) I loved the characters, the world-building, and the storyline, but I can never find people to fangirl with me. The first two books were pretty meh, but the rest of the series and the Bloodlines series are spectacular.
Tagalongs / Peanut Butter Patties | A Book That Wasn’t What You Expected
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. This book was an unexpected love. 💖I didn’t really know what to expect from the cover and title, but I just remember thinking of Percy Jackson’s Sea of Monsters and Eliza from Hamilton. I basically decided to give it a try because other bloggers that I really respected loved the book, and I was blown away once I read it. There was such beautifully crafted storytelling, soft slow-growing romances, and raw emotions of the characters’ real struggles.
Snickerdoodles | A Book You May Never Stop Rereading/ Loving
The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead. Another great book with a cringey cover. Richelle Mead WYD!! I honestly prefer her Bloodlines series over her Vampire Academy series. 💛Sydney Sage is a personal role model for me, and her growth throughout the series is so inspiring. Of course, Adrian Ivashkov also makes the series that much greater too with his wit and charm.
This is such a sweet tag! (Ignore the pun, haha.) I love, love, LOVE Eliza and Her Monsters– it’s such a cute book, and Morgan Matson always gives me the warm feels just like freshly baked bakery treats. ^.^

Ahhh I’m loving the pun!! Eliza was such a great book. I was getting so emotional while reading it 😭I’m honestly turning into a contemporary loving fluff ball this summer. The way you described the warm feels is 100% accurate. Please let me know if you have any recs for me Abigail!

Chocolate chips and thin mints~ I have The Poppy War in my list too. Happy to see that you’re enjoying Morgan Matson’s books, hope you get to read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, that was my first Matson book and might say my fav among (minus Save the Date I haven’t read that one). And about EoS.. my promise is still pending. I swear I will make you proud before the year ends. 💕 hahaha

Yess!! I am such a chocoholic 🍫Hopefully, we both get to read The Poppy War sometime soon, but there’s honestly just so much to read (and not enough time 😂) I’m planning on reading all of Morgan Matson’s books sometime, but since I have Save the Date, I’m going to read that first. I promise to get to Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour soon though! Ahhh Pleaseeeee read EoS 😭I think you’re going to need to read some summary re-caps on the previous books because there’s so much info. But please read it before Kingdom of Ash is out!! I want to fangirl with you ❤

I have Save the Date from the library right now, and I’m so read to read it (After I finish the Always and Forever by Jenny Han) Thanks so much for reading 🙂 If you’re interested in doing the tag, I’d love to see your answers 😉

What a fun tag! Chocolate chip cookies for me, although Thin Mints are a close second. As for the books, I really want to read the Vampire Academy at some point. I saw the movie, and I know it’s not well- regarded, but it interested me in the world enough that now I want to read the books!

Thanks Greg! Chocolate chip cookies and thin mints are definitely my top two too 🍪I definitely recommend the Vampire Academy books. It’s one of my favorite series, but it’ll probably be more cringey to read nowadays than when it was first released. I’m so happy that the movie made you want to read the books 🙂 Keep me updated on your thoughts if you do read them!

I’m excited to read The Poppy War as well, it looks awesome and everyone has been raving about it ever since it came out.
Also, I understand your love for VA and I can relate to it! Those covers never did any justice to the series, I hoped that maybe, maybe after they chose to change them, they’d come with something better, but noooope. 😢
Lovely post!

Thank you so much Marta 🌸 Haha at least we are together in this smol VA fan club 😂😭The cover changes (and the book name) never did the series and amazing plotline any justice. I was really hoping the movie would be good too, but it didn’t generate as much hype as I hoped. Thank you so much for reading again, and if you’re interested in doing the tag, I’d love to see your answers too! 🍪
