Most Highly Anticipated Contemporary Books for 2019

Last week, I fangirled about my favorite contemporary reads this year, and this week, I gushed about my most highly anticipated Asian fantasy reads. Today, I’m bringing you the best of both worlds and screaming all about my most highly anticipated contemporary reads for 2019! 🎉 giphy.gifTruthfully, I was never the biggest fan of contemporary books, but this year, I started finding the most fluffy, heart-warming reads, and it’s safe to say that it’s become one of my favorite genres. 💞 Therefore, I present to you my most highly anticipated 2019 contemporary releases AKA books that I know will melt my heart:

1. If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

40087230I absolutely loved Always Never Yours beyond words, so I cannot wait for this release! Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka always write the most fun protagonists, and they do a fantastic job modernizing a classic Shakespearean tale. The cover for this book is incredibly gorgeous (it’s pink!!), and I love that it’s set in Los Angeles (SoCal represent ☀). The plotline also sounds somewhat similar to an enemies-to-lovers situation which we all know is a trope I love with all my heart.

2. Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

36992163In addition to reading and blogging, I’m also a huge fan of K-Pop music (ft. My K-Pop Reading Playlist), so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Maurene Goo would be writing a story a K-pop star protagonist!! Much like her other books’ covers, this cover is super adorable, and the synopsis already has my heart fluttering. 🎵

3. You Asked For Perfect by Laura Silverman

33299465I haven’t even read this book, but I already know that I will love Ariel as a character, or at least I’ll be able to relate to him. ☁ You Asked For Perfect discusses academic pressure, and as someone who struggles with a lot of anxiety around school and grades, I know that this is a book that will touch my heart. Laura Silverman is an author I’ve been meaning to read from for a long time, so this is definite must-read next year!

4. Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

35843729When I first heard of this book, I had to wonder if it was inspired by this viral tweet. Hot Dog Girl is a coming-of-age queer romance, and it’s set in one of the most fun summer locations possible—an amusement park! I honestly love the concept of this book so much, and I just can’t wait to read it. 🌭

5. The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston

39725622Geekerella was definitely one of my favorite contemporary reads this year, so I’m super excited to read another one of Ashley Poston’s books! 💫 The Princess and the Fangirl is a retelling of The Prince and the Pauper, and I can’t wait to see how Ashley Poston’s adds her creatives twists and be reunited with the Starfield franchise and fandom. I’m also suspecting there will be cameos from Elle and Damian, and it’ll be nice to see them as side characters in this story.

Bonus: Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale

A summer romance with a coffee shop aesthetic featuring pies and lattes?? Your girl is onboard. ☕

  1. I love this list, Tiffany! My heart is always soft for contemporaries. Hot Dog Girl and Somewhere Only We Know are both highly anticipated reads of mine, and I have a gut feeling that we’re really going to have a blast. I also can’t wait to read The Princess and the Fangirl because it will be my introduction to Ashley Poshton’s writing.

*hugs* And may you have a merry new year! 💙

  6. Wow these look like some great books! I’m excited about Small Town Hearts – which I first noticed on Wattpad. I’m totally going to be adding all of the books you mentioned to my tbr because I need to read more contemporary books this year. Other than that, Cassandra Clare has a few books coming out this year and I’m really excited to read The Red Scrolls of Magic!
