Monthly Wrap-Up: January 2019

Is it just me or did January feel like the longest month ever?? 😱 I can’t believe it’s only been one month into the year because it feels like I’ve been back at school for months and the holidays were forever ago. I’ve also been playing around with how I format my monthly wrap-ups so please give me all the feedback, and let me know whether you like the changes (or even notice them πŸ‘€).

TIFFANY’S LIFE 🌺

January marks the end of the holiday season which also means going back to school. I started the new semester, and it feels so strange to have different classes with professors I’m not used to having. Exams will start to pick up soon so I also need to begin my studying regime. ✏ Hopefully, I’ll be able to balance all my academics and extracurriculars with reading and blogging. My goal is to post twice a week, but I might bring it down to once a week during heavy exam seasons.

I also didn’t take that many photos this month (boo!! sad), so please enjoy these latergram photos. The mural photo was during my Downtown LA trip in December, and the ice cream photo was from the summer. 😬 I thought it was fitting because what’s a Read By Tiffany monthly wrap-up without some type of dessert, and it’s a delicious milk tea ice cream with fruity pebbles, green tea pocky, and a goldfish in a charcoal cone.

BOOKS I READ πŸ“š

My Goodreads goal this year is to read 50 books, and I finished 7 this month. I’m honestly bouncing around with enjoy because I read so many amazing books that I love with all my heart. πŸ’– I started January off with a buddy read of Warcross by Marie Lu with A from Avid Reader Diary which I enjoyed so much more than I thought I would. It had such amazing characters, and it captivated me as much as her Legend series. I also finally!! read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and I was left so SHOOK. It definitely lives up to its hype, and it’s already one of my favorite books this year.

I had the incredible chance to read ARCs of You Asked For Perfect and Descendant of the Crane this month, marking 3/21 books finished for #YARC2019. πŸ˜πŸ’˜ You Asked For Perfect was beautifully written with a relatable plotline and characters who were easy to love. Descendant of the Crane was majestic beyond words though I wished some parts had more development. I also finally finished my reread of Percy Jackson & the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus, and now, I’m considering starting the other series in the Rick Riordanverse.

Blog Posts & Updates ✏

I’m still indecisiveβ„’ as always about whether or not to change the layout of my blog and its theme to something more widescreen, but for now, I think I’ll be focusing more on consistently producing content, especially since school has started. I’ve really been enjoying the blog posts I’ve written this month so hopefully, I can continue on this smooth trend. 😊

In other exciting news, I received book mail!! πŸ’Œ I was incredibly lucky to receive an ARC of The Kingdom of Copper which I am excited beyond words to read. My mom was also super excited for me, and she’s actually the photographer because the book was shipped to my home address instead of my university address. I’m trying to post more consistently on Instagram too (probably once a week) instead of my previous every other blue moon. πŸ˜…

Goals ✨

Finally, I’m deciding to add a goals section to hold myself accountable and encourage healthy habits but also to push myself to grow as a blogger. βœ… My goals for this month are:

  • read 5 books (including 2 ARCs)
  • post twice a week on the blog & once a week on Instagram
  • drink 3 bottles of water every day
  • do homework on time
  • attend my professors’ office hours every week
  • walk to school once a week

  1. Oh my goodness, “drink 3 bottles of water every day” is an excellent goal!! Honestly, I never drink enough water. I don’t know how my dehydrated body even functions. Anyways, what a great wrap-up! I can’t get over that ice-cream cone – so much sugary goodness!!! Also, thanks for including my blog post (though you wrote it so maybe it’s technically your blog post??? I dunno haha).

  2. Your goals sound really good and reachable! Best of luck with them πŸ˜€

Also, what did the charcoal cone taste like? I’m curious.

  3. Love this wrap-up, Tiffany! I’m glad you had such a great reading month in January 😍 Congrats on reading 7 books – I also read 7 books in January, and my Goodreads goal is 50 books too hehe (twins!). I’m so happy you loved Warcross and Evelyn Hugo; I love both books so much! And omg it makes me so happy that you rated You Asked for Perfect 4.5 stars – I’m incredibly excited for that one because I know it’s going to be so relatable (and I live for relatable contemporaries). πŸ˜πŸ’“

You’re making me want to reread the PJO/HOO series too, haha – I love those two series so much. What Riordanverse books have you not read yet? And good luck with your goals for February!! I hope you have an amazing month πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ž

    1. Thank you Dezzy!! We’re goals twins ❀ ❀ ❀ We're definitely going to slay! I loved both Warcross and Evelyn Hugo so much and You Asked for Perfect beyond words πŸ™‚ It's honestly the definition of relatable for us! I also recently started Wildcard.

I think I've only read PJO and HOO :O I read the first book in Trials of Apollo but it was so long ago I don't really remember it! I also read The Red Pyramid but didn't love them so much. I've been debating starting Magnus Chase because of potential PJO cameos?? Not sure, but if you have any recommendations please let me knowwwww ❀

      1. YES WE ARE hehe πŸ’– I’ve already read 9 books so far this year, and I’m 5 books ahead of my goal which makes me feel very accomplished!! πŸ™ˆβ˜ΊοΈ

Oohh I definitely recommend the Magnus Chase trilogy!! But just a warning, I didn’t love the first book as much as the second & third books. I really did love the second and third books though. 😍 This series is heartwarming and funny like PJO/HOO (except more diverse), and I honestly enjoyed it a lot. I also read the first book of ToA but I completely forgot everything haha. I should reread it and continue the series too.

    1. Why was this month so long?? I definitely hope February is better for the both of us ❀ I need all the good and productive studying vibes πŸ˜… You Asked For Perfect was truly toooooo relatable, and I loved it so much πŸ™‚ You will love Evelyn Hugo!! I was really scared going in because of such high expectations and not sure if they would live up to them, but it's definitely worth the hype. I went in not really knowing much about it, and I think it was the best way to read it πŸ™‚ I hope you have a wonderful February too ❀

You Asked for Perfect!! I have heard so many good things, I really just can’t wait to read it. *bounces up and down in anticipation* I also hope you get to read more Rick Riordan. What other series of his do you want to read? I have read the PJ series, Heroes of Olympus, the Kane Chronicles, but have only read the first book of both Magnus Chase and Trials of Apollo. I feel like I should continue though?
Thank you so much for mentioning my post, Tiffany, it means a lot to me!πŸ’—

    1. Right?? I can’t believe we had a break at all! It felt like forever ago, and I already miss it 😭 You will seriously love You Asked For Perfect. It’s just too relatable! I’ve read PJO, HOO, the first book in Trials of Apollo and the Red Pyramid. I didn’t love The Red Pyramid that much and Trials of Apollo was good but not the same as PJO. I’ve been debating starting Magnus Chase, but we’ll see!

and AHH of course I will share your post Olivia ❀ I loved the discussion so much. Your girl loves love! It makes me so happy to hear that you love the format of this post too πŸ™‚ These are my favorite to write, so I'm glad it's well received. Happy Reading Olivia!!

and ahhh i don’t think you asked for perfect qualifies for yarc?? (i’m not 100% sure) i was referring to descendant of the crane! i think my wording makes it confusing πŸ˜…

the graphics were so difficult to put together because i’m so bad at graphic design, so it makes me so happy to hear that you think they’re pretty ❀ i hope you have a wonderful februrary too!!

  13. Honestly, January 2019 was sort of the shortest month for me. JEE, bundle of mock tests, Pre Boards, and binging friends between hours of study was all about it. But, bravo on doing so much in just one month!

  14. Ohhh that ice cream looks SO GOOD. Also love your picture in front of that mural – the colours are just popping πŸ™‚ I reread PJO not too long ago, which really put me in the mood to reread Heroes of Olympus as well, so maybe soon!
